Fauna in the Flora focuses on untamed Florida landscapes tucking in the fauna who live around us, yet often remain hidden from view. My finial experience is a fleeting glimpse, or a call of animal or birdie encountered out in the world. Rather than natural scenes as a reference, these batiks are composed from multiple and details of nature as references. In some batiks I’ve partially hidden the fauna, in others i’ve playfully places birds and creatures into scenes I’ve imagined, that become like a wilderness still-life.
Over the past few years I have had a fruitful collaboration with a talented poet, Antionette Libro. I’ve included her poetry below some of batiks.
