Recently I have become intrigued by indigo, an ancient dye known for the infinite ranges of blues it produces. This dye is concocted in a single vat, and the richness of blue shades are built up by submerging the cloth into the vat numerous times.
The organic nature of the process combined with the lightfastness of indigo have taken over my mind and studio at the moment. There is quite the learning curve going on here. It’s not that simple. Having an indigo vat has been likened to having a pet. It must be feed and tended too, and revived when something goes wrong. Which happens with some regularity. I thrive on the challenge.
