Wild Florida Series

I have always loved roaming around in the woods, natures tangle of beauty is breathtaking to me. Wild flowers along the side of a road, a dead tree along my path, or the quite beauty of an untouched patch of land all hold potential images to translate and express in batiks. Capturing light and shadow is often exaggerated by the crude tools used to lay down hot wax, and are part of the charm in batik images.

Gardens Series

Cultivated landscapes and flowers though beautiful, are not regular subjects for me, their obvious beauty speaks for itself. Occasionally something unexpected catches my attention and makes it's way into a batik, and there is a good chance an insect is involved. Watching insects at work has been a life long interest of mine. One of my earliest memories is squatting by an ant hill with my father, mesmerized.

I've always loved watching people, the concentration of a person engrossed in an activity can intrigue me, and often makes their way into a batik as I explore how to capture the gesture and essence of the moment.
